What to practise?
Most
students
cover
our
Driving
Curriculum
in
the
first
three
lessons,
with
Lesson
4
as
a
review
and
practice
of
all
skills
and
Lesson
5
as
a
review
and
pre-test
to
make
sure
the
Learner
Driver
is
ready
for
the
Road
Test.
Some
students
require
extra
lessons.
Either
way,
the
Learner
Driver
should
be
able
to
tell
you
about
their
most
recent
lesson.
Following
is
a
brief
description
of
what
is
covered
in
each
lesson
and
what
should
be
practised.
Lesson 2 - Driving Lesson Curriculum
Moderate traffic situations (city streets):
- driving techniques to manage the position of the car in traffic and change
lanes safely
- managing major intersections with four-way stops and traffic lights
- awareness of pedestrian traffic and traffic hazards
Complex traffic situations:
- driving techniques to manage city streets with heavier vehicular and
pedestrian traffic
Lesson 2 - Continuing Practice
Moderate traffic situations (city streets):
- entering traffic
- traffic spacing (following distance, vehicles to the sides, staying out of
other vehicle’s blind spots)
- speed control
- lane changes with mirrors, signal and shoulder check
- four-way stops at major intersections
- turns into the correct lane at major intersections with signals and
shoulder checks
- traffic lights - right turn on red, left turn by advancing into intersection
- roundabouts (suggest you avoid Armdale until Learner is more
experienced)
Complex traffic situations:
- gradually work into using the suggested routes, but avoid rush-hour
traffic (no point spending practice time sitting in a traffic jam)
